WHAT THEY SAY
Bonus SEIKO 5 SPORTS Automatic Strap Watch SNZG15J1 Mens
Love this watch, well developed and respectable reserve ability, it has not ended yet, mine is just a little fast but is not a big concern.
That is a great accessibility into automatic watches, the Seiko activity has an extended history of reliability.
Great watch that arrived promptly. It exceeded my anticipations. Fit and finish off was beautiful. Well packaged. The watch keeps excellent time right from the box.
A hi-tech, 23 jewels, automated movement identifies the Seiko Automatic Sports and earns it its classic position. This analog watch is guaranteed by 23 jewels; the hands are luminous and silver-toned while baton hour-markers add extra presence. The watch also shows night out and resists drinking water for 100 feet. The perfect watch for a round of beach volleyball, the silver-toned stainless hyperlink bracelet will maintain it set up.
SEIKO 5 – this is of the “5” A great marketer had the theory in the 70ies: to be a SEIKO 5, the watch really needs the next 5 (five) attributes (thus the name SEIKO 5):
- Water resistant,
- Shock resistant,
Please be aware that some SEIKO 5’s are actually SEIKO 4’s, if the “Day” function is omitted, then the Caliber 7S25 is used. The one difference to the normally found 7S26 is the omission of your day wheel.
Also re-issues of SEIKO 5 Sports often use the 7S36 caliber. Again the 7S36 is comparable to typically the most popular 7S26, yet it features 23 Jewels instead of the 21 Jewels in the 7S26.
Please note that all these movements conquer for a price of 21’600 bph (beats per hour) or 6 bps (beats per second).
As a contrast, an ETA 2824-2 beats at 28’800 bph or 8 bps. A Miyota 82xx beats at 21’600 bph.
Why must i talk about these three moves?
Because they’re within probably 80% of most inexpensive automatic wrist watches. A market show that is huge, yet challenged nowadays (2006) by a growing talk about of inexpensive China Made computerized movements An automated watch (also called a self-winding watch) is a mechanical watch, typically with an equilibrium steering wheel escapement, whose mainspring is wound by the movement of the wearer’s arm, rather than having to be wound personally every day.
Whereas a quartz watch is run by electricity, a mechanised watch is run by the mainspring which must be rewound for the watch to keep time.
THE CASE AND CRYSTAL
For SNK admirers who wish those watch instances were bigger, the put it off is finally over. The SNZG15 actions a powerful 42 mm which is 12 mm solid. That means its sizes are bigger than the old-style men’s watches, but is noticeably smaller than the outrageously huge designer watches you commonly see today.
The top circumstance includes a brushed finish, as well as refined finish off on the sides. The crystal is Seiko’s own hardlex crystal, which is extremely scratch resistant. It’s also water-resistant up to 100 meters.
The dial design seems a lttle bit busy, though it does have a rather nice arrangement that makes everything still readable. The outer engagement ring shows the visible numbered markings, while an internal ring provides military time. Your day and time frame info is presented at the 3 o’clock position.
The hour and minute hands are substantial with a pointy end, while the second hand is just a good sliver. The dark dial offsets the hands and markers very well. The lume is great, as it glows brightly for up to 7 or 8 hours.
The automatic mechanical 7S36 watch movements is correct and reliable, with variances which range from -20 mere seconds to +40 secs a day. That doesn’t quite equate to the best Swiss and Japanese computerized movements, but for an entry level watch it’s more than sufficient.
It offers a whip rate of 21600 BPH, and that means you don’t get the specific ticking from a quartz watch that can be annoying during the night when everything’s quiet. There is a 40-hour power reserve so you may take it off during the night without having to worry that it’ll stop working.
This is perhaps the weakest link in the Seiko 5 SNZG15, and it’s the key reason why the SNZG15 is a few dollars cheaper than the Seiko 5 SNZG13. The 22 mm nylon strap can feel a lttle bit too hard initially, and you will need a while to break it in. It’ll do the job sufficiently eventually though.
For some, the nylon looks quite cheap so it doesn’t match the tranquil appeal of the Seiko 5 SNZG15. But with NATO or leather straps you can easily buy to get and online, it’ll look much better.
PROS & CONS Bonus SEIKO 5 SPORTS Automatic Strap Watch SNZG15J1 Mens
Basically, what we have here’s an basic level armed service field watch, and it’s rugged efficiency and design are excellent.
The dial provides info quickly, and even during the night there is no problem telling enough time. The hands are brightly luminous in the dark, and it doesn’t fade for most hours.
The reliability is sufficient for many people.
The “provenance” (background), is nice, as it goes back to an earlier era when wristwatches such as we were holding worn on the field of fight.
The size of the case is perfect for those with bigger wrists, but even for common wrists it generally does not really look too big.
For the nylon strap disadvantage, for some it’s actually nice enough to wear as is. But for the most part, people don’t buy the Seiko 5 SNZG15 for the strap. You can simply change the strap to NATO or leather and that should improve its look even more.
