WHAT THEY SAY
Bonus SEIKO 5 SPORTS Automatic Strap Watch SNZG15J1 Mens
Love this watch, well built and respectable reserve power, it hasn’t stopped yet, mine is just a little fast however, not a big concern.
That is a great entry into automatic watches, the Seiko movement has a long history of stability.
Great watch that arrived on time. It exceeded my targets. Fit and surface finish was beautiful. Well packed. The watch keeps excellent time right out of the box.
A hi-tech, 23 jewels, programmed movement identifies the Seiko Auto Sports and makes it its typical status. This analog watch is guaranteed by 23 jewels; the hands are luminous and silver-toned while baton hour-markers add extra visibility. The watch also shows particular date and resists water for up to 100 feet. An ideal watch for a round of beach volleyball, the silver-toned stainless hyperlink bracelet will maintain it set up.
SEIKO 5 – this is of the “5” An excellent marketer had the idea in the 70ies: to be always a SEIKO 5, the watch has to have the next 5 (five) features (thus the name SEIKO 5):
- Water resistant,
- Shock resistant,
Please be aware that some SEIKO 5’s are actually SEIKO 4’s, if the “Day” function is omitted, then the Caliber 7S25 is used. Really the only difference to the normally found 7S26 is the omission of your day wheel.
Also re-issues of SEIKO 5 Athletics often use the 7S36 caliber. Again the 7S36 is similar to typically the most popular 7S26, yet it features 23 Jewels instead of the 21 Jewels in the 7S26.
Please note that all these movements beat at a level of 21’600 bph (beats per hour) or 6 bps (beats per second).
As a contrast, an ETA 2824-2 beats at 28’800 bph or 8 bps. A Miyota 82xx beats at 21’600 bph.
Why should i discuss these three actions?
Because they are within probably 80% of most inexpensive automatic wrist watches. A market talk about that is huge, yet challenged nowadays (2006) by an increasing show of inexpensive China Made automated movements An automated watch (also known as a self-winding watch) is a mechanical watch, typically with a balance steering wheel escapement, whose mainspring is wound by the movement of the wearer’s arm, instead of needing to be wound personally every day.
Whereas a quartz watch is power by electricity, a mechanical watch is powered with a mainspring which must be rewound for the watch to keep time.
THE CASE AND CRYSTAL
For SNK admirers who wish those watch circumstances were bigger, the hold out is finally over. The SNZG15 steps a solid 42 mm and is 12 mm dense. That means its proportions are bigger than the old-style men’s designer watches, but is noticeably smaller than the outrageously huge wrist watches you commonly see today.
The top circumstance comes with a brushed finish, as well as polished surface finish on the factors. The crystal is Seiko’s own hardlex crystal, which is incredibly scratch resistant. It is also water-resistant up to 100 meters.
The dial design seems a lttle bit busy, though it does have a rather nice arrangement that makes everything still readable. The outer wedding ring shows the prominent numbered markings, while an inner ring provides military services time. The day and night out info is featured at the 3 o’clock position.
The hour and minute hands are large with a pointy end, as the second hand is just a nice sliver. The black dial offsets the hands and markers nicely. The lume is great, as it glows brightly for up to 7 or 8 time.
The automatic mechanical 7S36 watch activity is accurate and reliable, with variances ranging from -20 secs to +40 mere seconds a day. It doesn’t quite compare with the best Swiss and Japanese automatic movements, but also for an basic level watch it’s more than sufficient.
It includes a master rate of 21600 BPH, so you don’t get the distinct ticking from a quartz watch that may be annoying during the night when everything’s quiet. There is a 40-hour vitality reserve and that means you can take it off at night and never have to worry that it’ll stop working.
This is possibly the weakest link in the Seiko 5 SNZG15, and it’s the reason why the SNZG15 is a few dollars cheaper than the Seiko 5 SNZG13. The 22 mm nylon strap can feel a lttle bit too hard initially, and you’ll need time to break it in. It’ll do the job sufficiently eventually though.
For some, the nylon appears quite cheap so it doesn’t match the peaceful appeal of the Seiko 5 SNZG15. But with NATO or leather straps you can certainly buy to get and online, it will look much better.
PROS & CONS Bonus SEIKO 5 SPORTS Automatic Strap Watch SNZG15J1 Mens
Basically, what we’ve here’s an basic level military field watch, and it’s really rugged functionality and design are excellent.
The dial provides info commonly, and even during the night there’s no problem telling the time. The hands are brightly luminous at night, and it generally does not fade for most hours.
The accuracy is sufficient for most people.
The “provenance” (record), is nice, as it goes back to a youthful era when watches such as we were holding worn on the field of challenge.
How big is the case is ideal for people that have bigger wrists, but even for regular wrists it generally does not really look too big.
For the nylon strap drawback, for some that it is nice enough to wear as is. But for the most part, people don’t buy the Seiko 5 SNZG15 for the strap. You may easily change the strap to NATO or leather and that should improve its look even more.
