WHAT THEY SAY
Bonus SEIKO 5 SPORTS Automatic Strap Watch SNZG15J1 Mens
Love this watch, well built and decent reserve ability, it has not halted yet, mine is a little fast although not a big concern.
That is a great entry into automatic designer watches, the Seiko motion has an extended history of dependability.
Great watch that arrived promptly. It exceeded my targets. Fit and carry out was beautiful. Well packaged. The watch will keep excellent time right from the box.
A hi-tech, 23 jewels, programmed movement defines the Seiko Automatic Sports and makes it its classic status. This analog watch is backed by 23 jewels; the hands are luminous and silver-toned while baton hour-markers add extra awareness. The watch also shows night out and resists normal water for 100 feet. An ideal watch for a round of beach volleyball, the silver-toned stainless hyperlink bracelet will keep it set up.
SEIKO 5 – the meaning of the “5” A great marketer had the idea in the 70iha sido: to be always a SEIKO 5, the watch has to have the following 5 (five) attributes (thus the name SEIKO 5):
- Water resistant,
- Shock resistant,
Please be aware that some SEIKO 5’s are actually SEIKO 4’s, if the “Day” function is omitted, then the Caliber 7S25 can be used. The only real difference to the normally found 7S26 is the omission of your day wheel.
Also re-issues of SEIKO 5 Sports activities often use the 7S36 caliber. Again the 7S36 is comparable to typically the most popular 7S26, yet it features 23 Jewels instead of the 21 Jewels in the 7S26.
Please note that all these movements conquer for a price of 21’600 bph (beats each hour) or 6 bps (beats per second).
As a comparison, an ETA 2824-2 beats at 28’800 bph or 8 bps. A Miyota 82xx beats at 21’600 bph.
Why will i discuss these three motions?
Because they’re found in probably 80% of most inexpensive automatic wrist watches. A market share that is huge, yet challenged nowadays (2006) by a growing show of inexpensive China Made automatic movements An automatic watch (also called a self-winding watch) is a mechanical watch, typically with a balance steering wheel escapement, whose mainspring is wound by the motion of the wearer’s arm, instead of having to be wound personally every day.
Whereas a quartz watch is driven by electricity, a mechanised watch is powered by a mainspring which must be rewound for the watch to keep time.
THE CASE AND CRYSTAL
For SNK fans who want those watch circumstances were bigger, the hold out is finally over. The SNZG15 steps a robust 42 mm and is 12 mm dense. That means its measurements are bigger than the old-style men’s watches, but is noticeably smaller than the outrageously huge wrist watches you commonly see today.
The top case includes a brushed finish off, as well as refined finish off on the attributes. The crystal is Seiko’s own hardlex crystal, which is extremely scratch resistant. It is also water-resistant up to 100 meters.
The dial design seems a bit busy, though it does have a fairly nice arrangement that makes everything still readable. The exterior band shows the visible numbered markings, while an inner ring provides armed forces time. Your day and particular date info is presented at the 3 o’clock position.
The hour and minute hands are considerable with a pointy end, while the second hand is merely a good sliver. The black dial offsets the hands and markers effectively. The lume is excellent, as it glows brightly for 7 or 8 time.
The automatic mechanical 7S36 watch movement is correct and reliable, with variances which range from -20 mere seconds to +40 seconds a day. It doesn’t quite equate to the best Swiss and Japanese automated movements, but for an entry level watch it’s more than sufficient.
It provides a defeat rate of 21600 BPH, so you do not get the unique ticking from a quartz watch that can be annoying at night when everything’s silent. You’ve got a 40-hour power reserve which means you can take it off during the night and never have to worry that it’ll stop working.
This is perhaps the weakest link in the Seiko 5 SNZG15, and it’s really the reason why the SNZG15 is a few us dollars cheaper than the Seiko 5 SNZG13. The 22 mm nylon strap can feel somewhat too hard initially, and you will need some time to break it in. It’ll do the job well enough eventually though.
For a few, the nylon appears quite cheap so it doesn’t match the noiseless appeal of the Seiko 5 SNZG15. But with NATO or leather straps you can simply buy to get and online, it’ll look far better.
PROS & CONS Bonus SEIKO 5 SPORTS Automatic Strap Watch SNZG15J1 Mens
Basically, what we’ve here is an entry level armed service field watch, and it’s really rugged features and design are excellent.
The dial provides info readily, and even during the night there is no problem telling the time. The hands are brightly luminous at night, and it doesn’t fade for most hours.
The correctness is sufficient for most people.
The “provenance” (background), is nice, as it dates back to an earlier era when designer watches such as they were worn on the field of challenge.
The size of the situation is ideal for people that have bigger wrists, but even for standard wrists it generally does not really look too big.
As for the nylon strap disadvantage, for some it’s actually nice enough to wear as is. But for the most part, people don’t choose the Seiko 5 SNZG15 for the strap. You can simply change the strap to NATO or leather and which should improve its look even more.
