WHAT THEY SAY
Low Cost SEIKO 5 SPORTS Automatic Strap Watch SNZG15J1 Mens
Love this watch, well developed and good reserve ability, it has not stopped yet, mine is a little fast but is not a big issue.
This is a great entrance into automatic wrist watches, the Seiko movements has an extended history of reliability.
Great watch that arrived on time. It exceeded my targets. Fit and carry out was beautiful. Well packed. The watch maintains excellent time right out of the box.
A hi-tech, 23 jewels, automatic movement identifies the Seiko Automatic Sports and makes it its classic status. This analog watch is backed by 23 jewels; the hands are luminous and silver-toned while baton hour-markers add extra visibility. The watch also shows time frame and resists normal water for up to 100 feet. The perfect watch for a circular of beach volleyball, the silver-toned stainless steel link bracelet will maintain it in place.
SEIKO 5 – the meaning of the “5” An excellent marketer had the idea in the 70isera: to be a SEIKO 5, the watch really needs the next 5 (five) attributes (thus the name SEIKO 5):
- Water resistant,
- Shock resistant,
Please note that some SEIKO 5’s are in fact SEIKO 4’s, if the “Day” function is omitted, then your Caliber 7S25 is used. Really the only difference to the normally found 7S26 is the omission of the day wheel.
Also re-issues of SEIKO 5 Athletics often use the 7S36 caliber. Again the 7S36 is similar to the most popular 7S26, yet it features 23 Jewels as opposed to the 21 Jewels in the 7S26.
Please note that all these movements beat for a price of 21’600 bph (beats per hour) or 6 bps (beats per second).
As a assessment, an ETA 2824-2 beats at 28’800 bph or 8 bps. A Miyota 82xx beats at 21’600 bph.
Why do I speak about these three movements?
Because they’re found in probably 80% of all inexpensive automatic wrist watches. A market show that is huge, yet challenged nowadays (2006) by a growing show of inexpensive China Made automatic movements An automated watch (also known as a self-winding watch) is a mechanical watch, typically with an equilibrium steering wheel escapement, whose mainspring is wound by the motion of the wearer’s arm, rather than needing to be wound by hand every day.
Whereas a quartz watch is powered by electricity, a mechanised watch is powered with a mainspring which must be rewound for the watch to keep time.
THE CASE AND CRYSTAL
For SNK fans who want those watch situations were bigger, the delay is finally over. The SNZG15 actions a sturdy 42 mm which is 12 mm thick. That means its sizes are bigger than the old-style men’s wristwatches, but is noticeably smaller than the outrageously huge designer watches you commonly see today.
The top case comes with a brushed finish off, as well as refined finish off on the edges. The crystal is Seiko’s own hardlex crystal, which is incredibly scratch resistant. It is also water resistant up to 100 meters.
The dial design seems a lttle bit busy, though it does have a rather nice arrangement which makes everything still readable. The outer diamond ring shows the prominent numbered markings, while an internal ring provides military time. The day and time frame info is presented at the 3 o’clock position.
The hour and minute hands are large with a pointy end, while the second hand is merely a nice sliver. The black dial offsets the hands and markers perfectly. The lume is excellent, as it glows brightly for 7 or 8 time.
The automatic mechanical 7S36 watch movement is correct and reliable, with variances which range from -20 a few moments to +40 mere seconds a day. That doesn’t quite compare with the best Swiss and Japanese programmed movements, but for an entry level watch it’s more than sufficient.
It offers a beat rate of 21600 BPH, so you do not get the specific ticking from a quartz watch that may be annoying at night when everything’s silent. You’ve got a 40-hour vitality reserve so you may take it off at night without having to worry that it’ll stop working.
This is perhaps the weakest hyperlink in the Seiko 5 SNZG15, and it’s really the reason why the SNZG15 is a few dollars cheaper than the Seiko 5 SNZG13. The 22 mm nylon strap can feel somewhat too hard initially, and you’ll need time to break it in. It’ll get the job done sufficiently eventually though.
For a few, the nylon appears quite cheap so that it doesn’t match the calm selling point of the Seiko 5 SNZG15. But with NATO or leather straps you can certainly buy to get and online, it will look far better.
PROS & CONS Low Cost SEIKO 5 SPORTS Automatic Strap Watch SNZG15J1 Mens
Basically, what we’ve here’s an entry level military field watch, and it’s rugged operation and design are excellent.
The dial provides info quickly, and even at night there is no problem telling enough time. The hands are brightly luminous at night, and it doesn’t fade for many hours.
The correctness is good enough for most people.
The “provenance” (record), is nice, as it goes back to an earlier era when wristwatches such as they were worn on the field of fight.
How big is the situation is exquisite for those with bigger wrists, but even for standard wrists it generally does not really look too big.
For the nylon strap disadvantage, for some it’s actually nice enough to wear as is. But also for the most part, people don’t choose the Seiko 5 SNZG15 for the strap. You can easily change the strap to NATO or leather and that should improve its look even more.
